On 21 August, around 25 people, including representatives from local faith groups, businesses, charities, and concerned residents, came together to discuss how best to respond to the fear and division being spread in Hoylake by nightly protests outside the Kings Gap Hotel. These gatherings, which include known far-right activists, have created an atmosphere of hostility in our town. Wirral is a Borough of Sanctuary.
As residents and friends of Hoylake, we want to make it clear: people are welcome in our community, but far-right activists who promote hate and intimidation are not.
Local people have shared disturbing stories of being followed and harassed simply for walking past the protests. Others have said they feel too afraid to stand up to the hostility. This has to stop.
That is why Hoylake4All has been formed, to provide a positive, non-confrontational way for those who are horrified by the events in our town. Our aim is to spread hope, dispel myths, and build an inclusive community. We are at the very beginning of this journey. While we do not yet have a formal constitution, our determination is strong. We will be holding conversations, sharing facts, and planning inclusive events that give people who feel silenced by the current hostility a safe and supportive way to speak out.
